STUDY: Facebook Reigns Supreme In South Asia

Facebook is handily winning the battle of social networks in south Asia. According to a new study by Jana, Facebook is the social network of choice in Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Vietnam, toppling Twitter, Google Plus, and Zing. In nearly every country, more than 70 percent of respondents said they use Facebook more than any other social media site.

Among the 3,000 social media users from those countries polled, Facebook finished as the No. 1 answer for the question, “Which social networking site do you use the most?” Zing was No. 2 in Vietnam, while Twitter earned the silver medal in the Philippines, Pakistan, and Indonesia. Google Plus was the second-place finisher in India and Bangladesh.
Most people in south Asian countries use Facebook to keep in touch with family and friends. More than 40 percent of respondents in the Philippines said they use Facebook to play games.

People in south Asia also engage with Facebook advertisements. Many responded positively to the question, “Have you ever clicked on an advertisement or liked a promoted post while using Facebook?”

  • Philippines: 88.64 percent
  • Indonesia: 88.19 percent
  • Vietnam: 87.72 percent
  • India: 80.59 percent
  • Pakistan: 78.95 percent

  • India: 97.38 percent
  • Vietnam: 96.69 percent
