Pepsi's 'Like Machine' Rewards Facebook Fans


Coca-Cola and Pepsi used to compete via huge advertising campaigns, but these days, the battle seems to be over vending machine technology.
Pepsi's latest weapon is the "Like Machine," which dispenses the company's soft drinks to fans who Like the brand on Facebook. As this video shows, you can either Like Pepsi on your phone or use a touchscreen on the machine to log your Like — and you'll be rewarded with a free drink of your choice. Pepsi piloted the machine at a Beyonce concert in Antwerp, Belgium, and has been encouraged by the response, so don't be surprised if you see one popping up nearby at some point.
The introduction comes after Coca-Cola recently launched machines in India and Pakistan that let citizens of the two states send beverages to each other, despite rising tensions between the countries.
Diet Coke also introduced what it bills as the "world's thinnest vending machine" in France earlier this year. The cola giants have also experimented with adding social media layers to their machines for the past several years.
