The bad news continues to roll in for Facebook Home and theHTC First, as TechCrunch reported that U.K. mobile carrier EE and French counterpart Orange both confirmed that they will not roll out the only mobile device to come preloaded with the Android overlay.
These developments follow a report earlier this month that AT&T will discontinue the HTC First, and AT&T’s previous announcement that it was dropping the cost of the handset to $0.99 with a two-year commitment.
It was widely reported in April that the average rating for Home on the Google Play store was 2.2 stars out of five, and that figure has only improved slightly, to a2.3 as of Thursday morning.
TechCrunch shared the following statement from EE, adding that it received a similar communication from Orange:
Following customer feedback, Facebook has decided to focus on adding new customization features to Facebook Home over the coming months. While they are working to make a better Facebook Home experience, they have recommended holding off launching the HTC First in the U.K., and so we will shortly be contacting those who registered their interest with us to let them know of this decision.
Rest assured, we remain committed to bringing our customers the latest mobile experiences, and we will continue to build on our strong relationship with Facebook so as to offer customers new opportunities in the future.
