Facebook rolls out Photo Sync for its Android and iOS apps

Facebook recently stated that it would be releasing a new feature for the iOS and Android versions of its app. Well, turns out this feature is called photo sync and it basically makes it easier to share images. Facebook stated in a blog post that this feature lets your phone sync photos automatically to a private album on the web. Whenever you want to share an image, just pick and post the desired image, which will then be viewable by your friends on Facebook.


Facebook stated on its blog: “We began testing photo sync in August and will continue to make it available to more people.”

Photo sync now available for Android and iOS users

Facebook has already rolled out the Photo Sync feature for iOS. The highlight of this feature is the fact that photographs are kept private once they are uploaded, and it’s up to the user to decide which photos they would like to share on their public feed. Users can also choose when and how the photos are uploaded by choosing between Wi-Fi and cellular, or they can simply choose to turn off sync.

Facebook mentioned on its support site that when photos are being uploaded over a cellular network, the images will be uploaded as smaller files, of about 100 KB. Over a Wi-Fi connection though, a larger version of the images will be uploaded. Facebook will not sync photos to the site if the handset’s battery is low.

This feature can also be accessed from a PC browser once you’re on the Photos tab; the ‘Synced from Phone’ option will be visible on the upper right corner. This feature could be handy if you’re out on a vacation or at a party, clicking multiple photos. The images will quietly sync themselves with your Facebook account and you can later review and decide on the best ones to share with your friends. To sweeten the deal, Facebook is offering all its users complimentary space of 2 GB to store their photos.

The photo sync feature could turn out to be a threat to Google+ Instant Uploads when rolled out completely.

We have used this feature and found the process seamless. You can share a large number of images on Facebook without having to select them manually. It has become a lot quicker and the ability to just select the images and upload it on to your Timeline has made the entire process seamless.
